Tied Three

An outdoor performance lasting approximately 1 hour
17th September 2023

XAP were invited to bring a third version of their durational performance, Tied, to the foreshore of the South Bank for the Totally Thames Festival 2023.

This annual festival celebrates the river Thames, with art and cultural activities taking place along the river throughout the month of September. Joe Mellen’s image of XAP’s performance of Tied at Whitstable was cleverly adapted by the festival team and used as the headline image for 2023. (see image top left)

During this third iteration of Tied, audience members were actively invited to join the performance on the foreshore and learn the art of net-making from the fisherwomen, further reinforcing the themes of the work - interdependencies, co-operation and connections.

Many thanks to Annabel Taylor-Munt at the Thames Festival Trust for her help and support throughout the project.
